A great way to get started using Dragon.
I was encouraged to use dragon for writing as it is about three times faster than typing (and I’m a fast typist). Dragon is, however, a big and complex program that requires some definite understanding to use successfully. This book is an excellent guide to getting started and then a good clear reference when you find yourself forgetting some detail.

    So far so good
I purchased Dragon 13 and another book that appeared as a “bought with ” notation. That book was totally unhelpful. I had difficulty even installing the software. Hoped to be able to do work at home, primarily in Word, while recovering from shoulder surgery. This book seems very helpful for that. Moving around documents, creating tables etc is different from writing an article I think. I also need to use medical terms, abbreviations, dates, dosage information for meds. This seems to have lots of instruction, including some lists for common commands etc.Although I have just started practicing I feel confident this will be a great help and reference for me.

Must have for Dragon Naturally Speaking
This is a must have book to accompany Dragon Naturally Speaking, a truly great piece of software if used as it was meant to be. I probably should wait to review this book until I have put more of its advice into practice, but it is the kind of reference one will return to over and over. I really didn’t understand the value of Dragon until I began to use this reference book. So, if you plan to use the Dragon software, you simply must get this book and get the full use and enjoyment of both.

No use for book; Didn’t have the program
Didn’t read it as book was ordered by mistake. Am sure it’s helpful from ‘preview’ I saw on the product page. Read those. Many chapters. Seems very detailed for those of us that aren’t IT techs, like me.

    Get the book!
Shipping great and packaging. It has a loot of good info in the book and glad I ordered it as the Dragon instructions are somewhat lacking. Recommend getting the book.

like myself, it walks you through step by step …
Would advise everyone that has Dragon to purchase this item. Only other reference material is on Computer and difficult to read and practice at same time. With Dragon for Dummies, like myself, it walks you through step by step how to use it correctly. Believe me when I say that without this book, it makes it very difficult to use it the proper way.

GUSSIE, MY DRAGONMy Dragon, Naturally Speaking — alias “Gussie”– has been giving me a “big run-around”! I was given a book by my computer specialist when he installed Gussie for me. The book is called “Training Your Dragon.” But it should be called, “Your Dragon’s Training You!”I should have known better because I named my new Dragon “Gussie” after my great grandmother, Augusta Hall. Just like Hilda, the wife of The Old Baily barrister, Rumpole, my great grandmother was a bit of a dragon herself; she was huge, powerful, knew everything and was extremely strict. I learned long ago to pay close attention to her commands— or some type of “judgment” would quickly descend.Nothing is ever as simple as it sounds, is it? It isn’t with Gussie, that’s for sure. Really, I was just supposed to be able to speak into the microphone — clipped to my collar, of course — and my words would magically appear on the computer’s desktop. Proof, print and presto! A document appears, ready for publishing. Ha!Two days ago, Gussie hid from me — all day she was gone; she just magically disappeared off my computer’s desktop. I had no idea what I had done to hurt her feelings enough for her to run away and hide.Literally, I spent an entire day looking for what’s called “The Dragon Bar.” It contains the entire menu for operating the Dragon program and it disappeared from my desktop screen! I read my Dragon-training book; it didn’t even mention a disappearing Dragon, let alone advise me how to find her! Nor did Googling help! Nor did…In despair, I ordered the book pictured here from Amazon, “Dragon for Dummies.” As soon as I had ordered the book and begged a friend to rescue me, I found her! Gussie had been hiding all day long on the desktop of my computer in what’s called, “Hidden Icons!” Logical? Yes, but after a day of searching, I wasn’t being very logical. I guess Gussie just wanted to play “hide and seek,” but I really wasn’t in the mood for games by that time!My book for dummies has just now arrived at my door. Am I up for the challenge? Now we’ll see who trains whom! – Geneva Ensign

Its totally brilliant ! Dragon installed faultlessly on Win 10.The initial setup ‘training’ was easy to follow.Yes your Dragon requires training but its a bit like getting used to the Office choices -if you can do powerpoint/excel you will be fine,,yes it requires study and work, but Dragon is for you.I have only done a few hours but the dictation is fine. I just need to learn a bit more about the formatting/punction etc. I’m writing out a cheat sheet to pin-up in front of me to remind my ageing brain ! Suggest you start with the Home version and upgrade later. The mike that comes with it is fine as a start.Have started my ‘Family History’ and book on ‘Beeekeeping hints’ both already being drafted. Saves learning to type !

I have Dragon on my laptop for a Uni course and was using it a little but struggling with it. This book has opened up this software so I can use it with confidence and get far more out of it than I thought possible. Anyone thinking of getting Dragon NaturallySpeaking should get this book, I am a fan of the Dummies series of books but this one has been the most useful so far.
