Works great even through a mesh satellite
So I don’t have normal doorbell wiring at my house. It was built in the 70’s. The idea of moving a CAT 6 wire across my attic was not a very appealing idea, but I wanted a doorbell. It was then I realized I had a mesh satellite for my router nearby – and that with some luck, I’d be able to wire something together.I moved my mesh satellite to an outlet by the front door. The satellite does not provide POE, so I took the ethernet cable and connected it to a POE injector & plugged the injector into the wall as well. I then ran another CAT 6 cable from the injector to the doorbell, and the doorbell thinks it is directly hooked into the router across the house. The signal quality is perfect, no lag whatsoever. If you are looking for a DIY doorbell but have no hookups, the method I used may work for you. You will just need 2 open wall outlets, a mesh router satellite with 1 POE output, an injector, 2 CAT cables, and obviously the doorbell.Camera quality is great and the AI package/person detection works nice to eliminate false notifications from swaying trees in the front yard. Night vision is okay but our porch light keeps it from turning on. It’s easy enough for anyone with a smart phone to set up.

The Doorbell That Sees All, Hears All, and Knows When You’re Sneaking a Snack
Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the REOLINK 5MP Video Doorbell PoE Camera with Chime – the doorbell that’s basically an all-seeing, all-hearing, door-bell-turned-private-eye. This thing doesn’t just ring when someone’s at the door; it practically gives you a live-streaming reality show from your doorstep.First off, the installation was so straightforward that I’m convinced it comes with a secret superpower: making even the most tech-phobic person look like a wiring wizard. The PoE (Power over Ethernet) means fewer cords and less clutter, so you won’t be tripping over cables or accidentally unplugging your router while trying to figure out why the doorbell isn’t working.Let’s talk about the 3:4 head-to-toe view. This feature is like having a personal security guard who’s not only watching your front door but also keeping an eye on your entire lawn. No more missed deliveries because the camera’s got a panoramic view that could spot a squirrel stealing your mail – and probably also judge the quality of your landscaping. The 2-way audio? It’s like having a conversation through a magic portal. You can now greet your visitors with “Hello!” or give the pizza delivery guy directions to the side door, all while sitting comfortably on your couch. And if you’re in the middle of a Netflix binge and don’t want to be disturbed, just hit the “don’t disturb” button and let the doorbell do the talking. It’s like having a personal assistant who also happens to be excellent at eavesdropping. And the chime! Oh, the chime. It’s not just a sound; it’s a little celebration every time someone rings your doorbell. It’s so cheerful that it might just convince you to invite more people over just to hear it.In short, the REOLINK 5MP Video Doorbell is not just a doorbell – it’s your new favorite houseguest. It’s got a view, it’s got a voice, and it’s got a cheerfulness that will make you forget about the time your neighbor borrowed your lawnmower and never returned it. Five stars for making every visitor’s arrival feel like a grand event!

Works well – Nice to have included chime.
Finally, after moving into a house with an unmapped PoE network, we have a doorbell that works! Really like having the separate chime, so no app required to know when your doorbell rings (new house didn’t have a standard powered doorbell and chime combo, just a PoE line to a dead Axis doorbell). I bought the Reolink NVR, and am still figuring out the app interface of the combined NVR doorbell. The app is not as intuitive as I had hoped. Also, I would like a little more variety for doorbell chime tones, so I could, for example, have a distinct tone for certain circumstances (person detection, package detection, doorbell push). The app allows different tones between doorbell push, person motion and motion detection, but most of the standard chimes are pretty bad, and not very distinguishable.

Requires some homework to use with 3rd party NVR, but not terrible to setup.
First and forward, This device will not work out of the box with anything but Reolink’s NVR or as stand alone. That said, here’s the directions that ReoLink doesn’t include or mention anywhere.Go to reolink’s website, and download the windows app. The android/iphone app wont have the required menus. The app is required because the http interface is disabled by default. Not a bad security feature to be honest, just adds extra steps.Plug in and power the camera.Add the camera to the app. It should in theory discover it on its own.Click the gear on the left by the camera you want to setup.Go down to Network, Advanced, then Server Settings.Enable the settings you want, such as HTTPS, RSTP, and Onvif, if for example it is being used with BlueIris. Its now a Onvif capable camera! Has a host of Onvif trigger broadcasts as well.Make sure to sandbox this device. It has tried to call home to reolink domains about 4,500 times in 9 hours without any extra services turned on.

Works fantastic with home assistant, the reolink app itself is kinda barebones and lacking though. So if you want picture or video notifications, you have to go with home assistant.
