This Book Should Get You Ready for the Exam (with one caveat)
I want to talk about the book from two perspectives: content and approach. In terms of content (and this is where I’d give the book a 4.5 out of 5 if I could rank aspects of it separately): I feel like they almost nailed it entirely except for one REALLY important part of the exam (based on my experience of when I took it and passed last time) — I don’t feel like this book covered Tableau’s Order of Operations in enough detail given how many of my questions focused on that subject, and its literal order, when I took the exam. The book dedicates a single page to even mentioning it (pictured) but doesn’t seem to dive into the subject much further beyond that. It’s not even a topic that you can find in the index. BUT – and I stress this – that’s the book’s only miss in my opinion (it’s just a significant miss). There are tons of examples and step-by-step walkthroughs that a novice could pick this book up, and feel exam-ready if they digested its contents cover-to-cover. You can find a lot of this information online, but it’s nice to have it all ready for you in one centralized location if you learn better through reading. That brings me to my comments on their approach: A lot of the exam itself, which the book is preparing you for, is rooted in Tableau’s documentation. Some of the exam nearly lifts verbatim phrasing and scenarios from Tableau’s documentation, and this book acknowledges that. Dare I say, they excel here. I don’t think that readers who are looking for a conversational-toned textbook will enjoy this one that much because the tone is very… “straightforward and plain” (in a good informative way) but it is technically sound. You are provided numerous examples and breakdowns through various topics in enough detail that it should satisfy what you need to know for the exam given that you also practice the skills independently. Their practice materials are also clutch as well. This book gives you many of the things that I just had to kind of put together myself the first time around that I took the exam. Make sure that you make use of the prep materials in the book (otherwise, what’s the point?) and DEFINITELY time yourself as honestly as you possibly can while you take the practice tests as the book suggests. You’ll appreciate that you did things that way when your exam day comes around, and you’ll feel less pressure because you know what to expect. The “true core learnings” of Tableau functionality are here within this book, they will prepare you for the main sections of the exam, and you won’t be disappointed in that aspect at all. Is this book the total one-stop shop for exam prep? No, BUT that’s not due to the book itself so much as the fact that Tableau constantly updates like crazy and their exams tend to try to keep pace with their products’ core features. That isn’t the book’s fault and, tech update schedules can be daunting to keep up with in a published book format. The fact that you gain access to so many online resources that come along with this book should be a huge help for anyone for many versions to come.As I said in the title, my honest overall opinion of this one is that this book should get you ready for the exam. This is a textbook, so if you’re seriously preparing as a first-time Tableau Certified Data Analyst Exam taker – I’d recommend that you give yourself 2-3 months to calmly work through this book’s material at a comfortable pace before your test. If you’re a seasoned pro, it’ll take you less time – but this book is still an excellent reference to brush up on areas that you may not be an expert in, and the practice assessments should show you areas where you have room for improvement before you take the exam.If you’re THINKING about buying this one, do yourself a favor and just do it. The future version of you with a certification will thank you. Nothing but praise for the group that put this together! It is a helpful study guide for anyone taking on the Data Analyst Certification from Tableau.Happy testing, Everyone!

I can’t download the practice tests.
I can download code example. The link will take you to a location to login. I login in then it redirects me to buy the book again. I so want to return this book but can’t due to it being digital.

The extras included are what make this book great
This book has everything you need to get you up to speed and become well adept at using Tableau. The best additions for passing the certification exam are the mock test questions that are included. They are very similar to the ones on the actual exam. The practice problems are great and the author did a really good job explaining concepts and features of Tableau. Iâd highly recommend this book to anyone starting off with tableau and definitely for anyone looking to get certified.

Great Explanations and Easy to follow Examples
This book is a comprehensive collection of 9 chapters which span the most essential Tableau functionality from Data Types and Data Transformations to Publishing and Managing Content. All covered topics in this book are explained in context with the certification exam in mind. This material not only serves as a test taking resource, but is also a capable source of reference for the experienced Tableau developer or Tableau novice. The writing style of Harry Cooney and Daisy Jones provide a common sense explanation of each chapter’s subject matter. The section on Data in chapterone reveal a concise yet informative explanation of relational databases, cubes, spatial files, flat files, statistical files; providing pros and cons of real time dynamic queries verses tables, views and data extracts in regards to performance.Data Transformation topics in the second chapter speak to arguably the most important tasks when planning a report or database. This chapter dives into several topics from comparing and contrasting the dimensions and measures data for a worksheet to examining data types and determining which are most useful when presenting a chart or visualization. From experience, data transformation in both Tableau and PowerBI require the greatest effort in planning for ensuring accuracy.Chapter 3, the Transformation Chapter covers Data Interpretation, Data Prep Builder, Joins, Unions using specific examples from a downloadable data set.Level of Detail calculations, calculated fields, math functions, trigonometric and string functions along with a myriad of case logic and windows functions are also covered with specific examples in the chapter. The subsequent chapters on visualizations and dashboard creation delve into meaningful tools and demonstration of the different types of dashboards that could be constructed using either a floating or tile formats, sizing, order of floating elements, etc. The later chapters discuss formatting, trend lines, scatter plots, geometric maps, charts, line graphs, and eventually Publishing. The reader can scan a QR code or click on the Packt link provide at the end of each chapter and login to access each test. I agree with the authors’ recommendation to take the practice exams at least three times with the goal of improving the test score while decreasing theamount of time with each practice test. This recommended strategy, I believe will give the reader success on the exam. If and when I take seek this certification, this book will be my primary tool in prepping for the Tableau Certified Data Analyst Exam.
