Eventgen they use in their examples doesn’t work in the current version of Splunk.
Eventgen they use in their examples doesn’t work in the current version of Splunk. At least not as they instruct. And authors don’t respond to questions. If you base half of your book on a tool which doesn’t work, at least provide some help on your web site.

A tutorial
I was looking for less of a tutorial format and more time spent in exploring business application of the tool. There was lots of good information that would serve a developer looking to use splunk. If I was to buy this book again, I would opt for hardcopy to use it as a desk reference.

Concise and Detailed book
Its a unique book. I suggest this book to all splunkers. Style of writing, presenting concepts make anyone feel “Learning Splunk is easy with this book”. Screenshots and step by step instructions is good to follow. This book contains everything a Splunk developer needs to start working on Splunk and saves some time to understand concepts easily.Splunk Terminology, SPL commands.I would say this book is a practical guide.I give the book 5 * stars because the author does provide many examples, information about what to expect from a Splunk developer/Administrator.

don’t waste your money – so basic that you are much better off looking at youtube for videos and reading the Splunk manuals.
