A must read which highlights the best of both worlds – Salesforce & AI
I’ve just finished reading this powerhouse of a book – a very comprehensive primer on how to architect AI solutions on Salesforce. This book plugs a huge gap which had existed despite so much documentation being available individually on Salesforce and AI, there’s very little which talks about the intersection of both worlds.Lars does a great job of breaking down the problem module by module – explains the building blocks, followed by an in-depth review of the Salesforce Einstein platform and eventually moves to explaining the AI models and core concepts in a simplistic and easy to understand manner. The best part is that everything is tied back to a use case and a case study so it’s all concept-based learning and application. The book also covers the Einstein suite products such as Einstein Lead Scoring and Opportunity Scoring, Next Best Action and does a great job of explaining how it ties to popular use cases of Sales, Service, Commerce and beyond. The book also extends just beyond Salesforce and talks about how you can integrate 3rd party AI services as well.Lastly, Lars summarises everything in the form of a use-case based decision guide which will be immensely beneficial for architects building AI solutions on Salesforce. If you are a Salesforce Architect wanting to explore AI solutions or an AI enthusiast wanting to understand how you can leverage the Salesforce platform, the book will be a great read for you. If you are a Salesforce architect preparing for the CTA review board, the book has a lot of useful concepts that will serve you well in your CTA journey as well.

For Salesforce Architects and IT Decision Makers
Architecting AI Solutions on Salesforce is essentially a blueprint for Salesforce architects. These architects and their IT partners may have a mandate to extend the Salesforce platform, so their business can tap into insights gained from Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is the latest frontier for leveraging CRM. The promise AI offers to an enterprise level business is to provide actionable information to both seller and customer, enabling everyone to make the right decisions at the appropriate time in the buying cycle. As the author notes, Salesforce is a relative latecomer to AI, having introduced the Einstein platform in 2016. As the author notes, Salesforce’s capabilities in this area have grown rapidly through acquisition of companies already using AI for insights to customer behavior, notably the 2019 acquisition of Tableau. In 10 chapters covered in four sections, the book manages to cover the approach to configuring AI in every Salesforce cloud platform, from Sales Cloud and Service Cloud, to Marketing Cloud and Commerce Cloud, and the more recent industry-specific offerings: Health Cloud, Financial Services Cloud, Manufacturing Cloud, and Nonprofit Cloud.Strengths of this book:The material takes a careful, architect/engineer approach to the walkthroughs in each cloud platform in the middle chapters, noting system requirements and best practices before configuration. Suggestions include data considerations, such as having a year’s worth of sales data in a specific Salesforce org (Sales Cloud); or a minimum of 1,000 cases and 500 article recommendations (Service Cloud). The author stresses throughout the book that without sufficient data to work from, the AI insights will be at best unhelpful, and at worst, inaccurate. The three later chapters focus on how to extend and custom build new AI features. Ranging from out of the box functionality to APIs to custom code and integration with third-party AI services (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and Google Translate). Examples are provided and include code from a GitHub repository, so a developer can follow examples in a given chapter and complete the setup of prediction models in their own test org.Limitations of the material:Not all of the cloud offerings are available to deploy as test/developer orgs, such as Marketing Cloud and Commerce Cloud, and the industry-specific clouds. While the book offers a walkthrough of AI setup for these, it is difficult to create a sample scenario using the reference provided. The author acknowledges this.Who this book is for:The ideal audience for Architecting IT Solutions on Salesforce are CTAs (Certified Technical Architects) and those working toward that certification. IT directors and platform designers who work with Salesforce, and IT decision makers with budget authority will also benefit from the material. Technology leaders, their teammates, and their direct reports would agree that it prompts them to ask the right questions before proceeding with a large scale AI implementation.

Excellent primer for Architecting AI solutions
As a Salesforce Architect, we spend much time discussing and describing solutions around the platform and capabilities of the different layers of functionality such as the Data, Integration, Engagement and Analytic layers. One area that has not gotten a lot of press is the Intelligence layer, until now. Lars Malmqvist book Architecting AI Solutions on Salesforce is a very timely look at the different ways to use Artificial Intelligence including Einstein features on the Salesforce platform.Historically, architects have spent a lot of time and effort on the engagement layer making sure that end users have access to the information they need where they need it. I believe that as we move into the future, the Intelligence layer will become a critical piece to a CRM implementation due to the need for âactionable insightsâ that give organizations an advantage.Malmqvist details AI solutions for Sales, Service, Marketing and Industry specific Salesforce clouds. This guide also talks about third party intelligence solutions and architectural decisions to be made with designing and implementing AI on the CRM platform.I am very happy to see this book now available for Salesforce Architects and I hope it encourages the use of future Intelligence Solutions.
