Key Features:

Gain hands-on experience in designing and managing high-performance cloud solutionsLeverage Google Cloud Platform to optimize technical and business processes using cutting-edge technologies and servicesUse Google Cloud Big Data, AI, and ML services to design scalable and intelligent data solutions

Book Description:

Google has been one of the top players in the public cloud domain thanks to its agility and performance capabilities. This book will help you design, develop, and manage robust, secure, and dynamic solutions to successfully meet your business needs.

You’ll learn how to plan and design network, compute, storage, and big data systems that incorporate security and compliance from the ground up. The chapters will cover simple to complex use cases for devising solutions to business problems, before focusing on how to leverage Google Cloud’s Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) and Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) capabilities for designing modern no-operations platforms. Throughout this book, you’ll discover how to design for scalability, resiliency, and high availability. Later, you’ll find out how to use Google Cloud to design modern applications using microservices architecture, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices. The concluding chapters then demonstrate how to apply machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to derive insights from your data. Finally, you will discover best practices for operating and monitoring your cloud solutions, as well as performing troubleshooting and quality assurance.

By the end of this Google Cloud book, you’ll be able to design robust enterprise-grade solutions using Google Cloud Platform.

What You Will Learn:

Get to grips with compute, storage, networking, data analytics, and pricingDiscover delivery models such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaSExplore the underlying technologies and economics of cloud computingDesign for scalability, business continuity, observability, and resiliencySecure Google Cloud solutions and ensure complianceUnderstand operational best practices and learn how to architect a monitoring solutionGain insights into modern application design with Google CloudLeverage big data, machine learning, and AI with Google Cloud

Who this book is for:

This book is for cloud architects who are responsible for designing and managing cloud solutions with GCP. You’ll also find the book useful if you’re a system engineer or enterprise architect looking to learn how to design solutions with Google Cloud. Moreover, cloud architects who already have experience with other cloud providers and are now beginning to work with Google Cloud will benefit from the book. Although an intermediate-level understanding of cloud computing and distributed apps is required, prior experience of working in the public and hybrid cloud domain is not mandatory.

A handy guide for beginners and practitioners alike
This book is a comprehensive guide to designing cloud solutions on GCP, in plain simple language. Completely true to its name it does teach you to architect Google cloud solutions and focuses on the why rather than the how like a lot of books in this category. It doesn’t simply walk you through various GCP products but teaches you think like a cloud architect. Definitely recommended for beginners. While it gives steps and hands-on examples in every chapter, it focuses more on when and why to use specific resources, e.g. when to choose IaaS VMs or spanner instead of SQL.It puts you in the design mindset right off the bat with making the case for cloud and specifically GCP, an overview of major GCP resources in compute, network and storage and a case study to give the freshest of freshers a very clear picture of what being a cloud architect is about.Even as a certified cloud architect, I found things like flowcharts for choosing storage and compute resources, questions to ask yourself when picking network configurations, links and tools to bookmark etc handy and helpful. It covers pretty much all the usual scenarios cloud architects find themselves in and clear guidelines to make the design choices. It covers all the latest GCP resources including ones in beta. Within its limited scope, it gives a decent overview of microservices, DevOps, Kubernetes, and even AI. Especially enjoyed the chapters on ensuring observability, SRE and security. Loved how the author lists the best practices in every section, something a lot of self taught engineers learn the hard way. Definitely worth a read.

A comprehensive reference book on Google Cloud
This is a must-have reference book for people who want to have a comprehensive understanding of all major aspects of Google Cloud, as well as for people who want to have well-guided hands-on experience in trying it out. One thing I found particularly helpful is its well-organized chapter structure, where each chapter covers a specific topic/technology area with both high-level overview and step-by-step hands-on examples. So, for instance a reader can either browse through overviews across all chapters to quickly grasp the basic concepts and enabling technologies, or dive into specific chapters of interest to have a though understanding and hands-on learning, while skipping other chapters altogether. As a professional in the telecom industry currently evaluating various cloud-based AI/ML solutions, I personally found the technical comparison between Google Cloud vs. other major clouds (AWS, Azure, etc.) in the introduction chapter very resourceful and the hands-on examples in the ML and AI chapter particularly valuable.Overall a highly recommended book. I’m glad to get a paper copy (instead of the digital one) so that it can be physically placed on my desk for easy reference.

Easily a top cloud computing book
As someone that’s been around in cloud computing for a while I find that most books are a waste of time. That’s not the case here. The author did a great job of covering Google Cloud holistically making it a really strong intermediate level book on Google Cloud but also consumable for beginners as well. The chapters on networking and storage were incredibly fundamentally sound chapters that anyone in cloud computing should be reading. There was also some really strong chapters on cloud architecture as well as great introductions to more advanced topics like AI/ML that were written in plain English for anyone to absorb. I highly recommend this book!

    Great coverage of Google cloud
Thorough book on designing Google cloud infrastructure. While some info will transfer to other cloud systems, the author has the right idea to concentrate on one system, and explain it well. Great textbook and handy reference to keep in the bookshelf.

Perfect book to get jump-start your experience in Google Cloud
By reading this book, you will get a flying start with Google Cloud. The book has a good and consistent structure and is easy to follow for readers with different knowledge levels. The explanation of how components can be configured is supported with clear screenshots.Using Google Cloud is not easy and this book will help you make the right choices about which of the many Google Cloud components to use. The flow diagrams help you make these choices. This book not only shows how to use the Google Cloud components, but also the power of the combination of multiple components, for example BigQuery and Cloud AI Platform in a machine learning context. The concepts are supported with interesting examples that are easy to understand for all technical readers. In some places I might have expected an overview picture more often to support the text even more.In the last part of the book, the knowledge of the Google Cloud components is combined with a vision and explanation of the ideas and concepts behind cloud-native application development. Examples of this are the extensive explanation of microservices design patterns, DevOps and DevSecOps (a good focus on security is important), use of OpenAPI and more. The concepts explained are supported in each chapter with interesting hands-on examples and challenging case studies. This ensures that after reading this you can seriously get started on bringing existing or new applications to the Google Cloud. Highly recommended if you are looking for long term cloud adoption success.
