From the Publisher
What’s new in this second edition?
I’ve added a brand-new chapter dedicated to Microsoft Teams templates, a new feature that helps with governance while also speeding up the creation of new teams, ensuring consistency across them.
The channels chapter now includes an overview of shared channels, which allow users from different organizations to collaborate without the need to switch to another tenant.
As Microsoft Teams is a global platform that can be used by anyone in any industry, independent of your working conditions, it has dedicated versions and hardware that allow frontline workers, teachers, and students to achieve more on the platform. Therefore, we have also added a chapter dedicated to industry-specific features and devices that are now available for Microsoft Teams.
Lastly, we also cover the new employee experience solution from Microsoft, Microsoft Viva, where you’ll find an overview of the four main pillars of Microsoft Viva available directly in Microsoft Teams.
What are the future advancements that you anticipate in Microsoft Teams?
Teams will become a more robust platform. It is already used by more than 200 million people worldwide and, as more and more features are added to it, it will naturally start replacing most of the applications used to accomplish day-to-day tasks at work. Eventually, Teams will be perceived more as an operating system rather than just a replacement for Skype.
With this in mind, we made sure that this book covers all the core features of Microsoft Teams and teaches you how to configure and extend the platform to achieve specific business goals. Unlike typical user guides that are focused on the end user, Hands-On Microsoft Teams covers the administration part for each feature explained in the book, making it a valuable tool for both new and existing Teams users and administrators.
What’s your favorite part of the book and why?
My favorite parts of the book are the chapters that help all users (with or without technical knowledge) to extend the Teams platform, empowering them to build custom apps for specific business needs without needing to use developer resources. The book covers most of the development methods available for Microsoft Teams, and everyone will be able to create new applications to replace manual processes or share information more seamlessly without writing code.
Readers will explore real-world scenarios from many different industries, explained with the help of step-by-step guides, and understand how to transform Microsoft Teams from the moment they start using it.

This book makes a lot of sense
I have read the first three chapters. In my current position, we use MS Teams. Based on what Iâve read so far, it makes what we use much more sense.

Good for beginners
I bought this book to get started with Microsoft TEAMS. It has the information I needed to do just that, but when I decided to get more involved with the features, it was lacking. It also has chapters on topics that most people will never use.

Clear, concise, and packed with step-by-step guidance and helpful scenarios
Microsoft MVP João Ferreira released the second edition of his new Microsoft Teams guide in late December 2021, making this one of the most up-to-date Teams books currently available. Other books available are geared exclusively towards certification and/or administrator responsibilities. Joãoâs book reaches a broader audience, sharing important information every Teams user should know. What I feel really adds value in this book is João provides more than just how-to. Youâll find scenarios and examples throughout the book in which João describes how particular features and tools are used in realistic business scenarios. Youâll also find more than theoretical information because of Joãoâs step-by-step guidance through specific tasks, such as how to create a new team from a template. And while itâs important to know how to create a team and channels, João takes it a further step to make sure readers not only understand the steps involved, but also the implications in the background. For example, when readers create a team theyâll discover the other Microsoft 365 group resources that are built to support that team simultaneously.João has put together a clear and concise reference guide packed with realistic scenarios and ideas you could refer to regularly. This guide will also be a great gift for co-workers, new hires, and even seasoned administrators since there is truly content for all levels in this book. Personally, I really appreciated that João made sure this new release also included newer features, such as Shared channels, ensuring itâs the most up-to-date Teams reference possible.

Easy to read and understand!
I recently got a chance to read through ***Hands-On Microsoft Teams*** by João Ferreira, and I really enjoyed it! As someone who constantly uses Teams in my job, this was a handy and helpful guide that allowed me to navigate through the application. One chapter that was particularly helpful was Chapter 4 which focuses on how to use the application for Meetings and for other Live Meetings. From constantly using Zoom, it was difficult for me to adapt to Teams for work, but through this guide, I have become more comfortable with Teams and in some instances such as for sharing my screen and for sharing files with other coworkers I prefer using Teams! I am also a very visual learner so having images to follow along really helped with understanding where things were and how to replicate it on my device!

Great book
One thing that I especially like about this book is although it is meant for experienced Microsoft professionals, it starts from teaching Microsoft Teams basics including topics like teams plans, web clients, desktop clients, creating a channel or a tab and more. It explains in detail the Teams’ core features like search, filter, commands, customizing teams with custom status messages and focus time. It helped me brush up on the fundamentals before I dive deep into the vast details that it explores.

Nice book
Teams is something a lot of us use heavily to communicate in our work and academic surroundings. This book goes beyond our basic understanding of Teams. It made me explore how I can leverage Microsoft 365 and custom apps to extend teams. These apps include SharePoint, Power Automate, Power Apps, and more. I understood everything from installing custom apps, working with them, and even blocking the teams apps.

Very useful book
I have been a frequent user of teams for work and for various external purposes as well. Before I got this book, I was under the impression that I am aware of everything teams can do. This book helped me explore teams through its various crucial chapters such as â Teams templates, Microsoft Viva, extending Teams uses through external apps and more.
