A great way to tackle gaining SharePoint and M365 knowledge and skill
One recipe at a time, and at nearly 800 pages, this book guides you through a plethora of scenarios and tasks you could likely encounter in SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 in general. From things as beginner-level as adding an app to a site in SharePoint to more complex topics like custom development using the SharePoint Framework (SPFx), there’s something for everyone inside this cookbook. As a SharePoint trainer, I’d highly recommend this to beginning SharePoint users as well as those interested in taking their SharePoint knowledge to the next level. The format of the book makes it easy to skip to specific tasks or skills of which you’re unfamiliar to learn just those. Then back to the table of contents to find another skill you wish to acquire.

A basic summary of Microsoft Apps
A basic summary the different apps offered by Microsoft. Fine for what it is but don’t expect many deep insights. There were a few interesting bits for Sharepoint. The rest is mostly just an overview.

While the book does offer a comprehensive look into Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online, I couldn’t help but notice significant discrepancies in the content’s current applicability. In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, one would naturally expect a digital format (kindle) like this book to reflect more up-to-date information. However, I found that a considerable portion of the material, approximately 35%, was alarmingly outdated. As an example, the sections regarding SharePoint’s Term Store, Content Types, and Site Columns no longer accurately represent the current state of SharePoint Online. These features have undergone substantial changes that render the book’s information obsolete.Furthermore, many of the menus and interfaces within SharePoint have evolved, making them substantially different from what the book describes. This disconnect between the book’s content and the real-world experience can be frustrating for readers seeking practical guidance.Beyond the issues of outdated content, the book fails to cover newer and important features. For instance, there is no mention of “CoPilot,” a valuable tool that assists users with code suggestions and explanations. Additionally, the book’s reference to “Yammer” is out of date, as the platform has transitioned to “Viva Engage.”While the book certainly had potential to be a valuable resource for navigating Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online, the lack of currency in its information greatly diminishes its effectiveness. Readers purchasing digital resources like this book anticipate accuracy and relevance, which unfortunately are lacking in this case.In conclusion, “Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online Cookbook” falls short in delivering accurate, current, and practical insights into the evolving world of Microsoft 365 and SharePoint Online. I sincerely hope that future editions or similar works will reflect the necessary updates and improvements to provide readers with meaningful and up-to-date guidance.

This book is a big help to get in touch with Microsoft 365.The author gives a fine overview of what it is “in” and how it works together. The Reader can not expect information in full depth in every topic. But it impresses in the width of information and all small examples create you a glimpse if imagination what can be done. So while reading I had many ideas and I know now where I want to go “deeper”. So the book is for everybody who wants a quick dive in Microsoft 365.
