Enjoyable to read and thorough but the practice questions are not like the PL-300 exam questions
I read this cover to cover several times and believe it did help me pass the PL-300. It’s enjoyable to read and explains the topics well so I recommend this book if you’re wanting to learn Power BI.One thing to note is that I also highly recommend purchased the Microsoft practice test, which I used extensively and believe is the biggest reason I passed the exam. While this book does have questions that check for understanding, these questions are usually much easier than the questions you’ll find on the exam. The exam also asks questions in many different formats, and not just multiple choice like in this book. That’s why I recommend using this book while also purchasing the official practice test.

Very helpful for PL-300 Exam, could be easier to follow along.
First, Iâd like to say this is a great resource for anyone preparing to take the PL-300 exam. Reading this text was my primary way of preparing, though I have 6+ years of Power BI experience, I had no issue passing the exam. The book does provide resources for you to use as a means of studying. My only wish is that the files available aligned better with that was shown in the text. Multiple times I saw in the images that the tables/files the book was using as an example simply didnât exist within the resources. The examples are easy enough to follow along with even if you donât do so in Power Bi, however, for someone less experienced in this application I feel this would only frustrate them as they couldnât follow along step-by-step.

A good foundation to build on.
This book is great to gain an understanding of Power BI, especially regarding terminology, functions, and capabilities. If you combine this book with some of the practice exams, and (if still offered) the Microsoft trainings, you’ll be mostly prepared for the exam. The sure way to pass on the first go, is if you use Power BI on a daily basis (my two cents).

Helps quickly understand key concepts
This is a well written book with insightful diagrams. I am using it to prepare for certification but it is also useful for people who need to learn PowerBI quickly.

Poorly written and edited
Chapter 2 is completely filled with undefined acronyms and unexplained Microsoft product names. In addition, instead of printing color screenshots you are given grey-and-white photos that are quite small (making them illegible) but are given a link to a .pdf with full-color screenshots. For a book that costs over $40 I expect the full-color screenshots to be bound into the book. Editing is nearly non-existent. Bottom line: returning while I still can.

Excellent Guide – Roadmap to Certification!
This guide is well written and uses vernacular that I can understand which is especially important to me because I have a 16-year background in Agricultural Finance with little previous experience in formal data compilation and analysis. Only within the past few years has our company invested heavily in technology, systems, and people to allow for data extraction into tables and databases. Prior to this, we did not have “usable” data, being housed mostly in Excel. This is a truly exciting time for us because we are just now learning the benefits of our data and what insights it can bring when analyzed correctly.  This book makes excellent points on why data is important and how Power BI is a solution to data analysis. Through trial and error, I have learned that I must sell the data to the audience which I am presenting, mainly sales personnel within my company. I especially enjoyed reading Part 3 – Visualizing the Data to aid me in storytelling. I have learned very quickly that if I show a table of values to our salespeople only a small percentage will take the time to digest it, but if I provide a well-formatted visual aid (even with higher-level information) they digest it quickly and ask for the more-granular information. I love seeing all the various visuals in this section, as it provides me with future ideas on how to present the data to my audience in the most impactful way.I had not considered becoming certified in Power BI in the past. This book provides the road map I need to be successful in obtaining certification.

Iâve only been using Power BI for a short while, so I needed something to help me with the basics and DAX. I bought a few of the books, with good reviews, only to end up searching online for more information. Iâm not taking any Microsoft exams, but Iâve found this book to be the best one Iâve looked through, and thereâs plenty of information to reference as my knowledge grows. All the extra information about data flows, data cleansing, profiling, and power query is an excellent resource.

I can agree with other poor reviews, that this book is lacking a lot of editorial work, wrong figures in low quality, and outdated info (in 2024). I submitted errata through the Packt publishing support and they gave me a free E-book credit, which is OK.I don’t think this will get you/me through the exam on its own, so do some personal projects and review other sources and practices exams.

The book is accessible with good organisation and it seems to me that it is a perfect book / revision material for the exam. I am new to Power BI, but after reading and working on the practice materials in the book, I found Power BI to be an attractive skills set. I am glad that I bought this book.

The book is very basic and does not add any additional insights over and above the Microsoft learn site.On top of that there are numerous editing errors in the book which are really sloppy. Very poor. Save your money.
