LONNIE FRISBEE IN HIS OWN WORDS.

“Lonnie was a forerunner and trailblazer…” -Dr. James W. Goll

“[Lonnie] was like a Moses leading people out of bondage and into freedom.” -Jennifer A. Miskov, PhD

“This book is essential to understanding what we know as the Jesus movement.” -Kenn Gulliksen

“…discover the raw and vulnerable revivalist who changed nations with the simple gospel of Jesus!” -Chad Dedmon

Not by Might, Nor by Power is the only authorized autobiographical series of Lonnie Frisbee, an evangelist, missionary, and the original “hippy preacher” of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

In Book One, The Jesus Revolution, Lonnie opens up about the brokenness that marked his early life, his experimentation with drugs and different forms of spirituality, and his radical conversion to Christianity. After beginning his groundbreaking ministry amid the craziness of the Haight-Ashbury in San Francisco, Lonnie heads south to minister alongside Chuck Smith at a small church called Calvary Chapel. A major revival occurs among the youth in Southern California, resulting in thousands of salvations around the world during this cultural phenomenon known as the Jesus People movement.

    EXTREMELY IMPORTANT for Christians
Well written and engaging. Lonnie Frisbee had an essential role in the Pentecostal/Charismatic Movement in the United States. This is the fastest growing movement of Christianity in the world. Characterized by being filled with the Holy Spirit and praying in tongues, modeled after the beginning of the Church Age in the Book of Acts, an emphasis is on healing and casting out demons, as well as the importance of Missions (spreading the gospel) which explains how it has become a worldwide movement. In my opinion, the Lord is preparing the world for His return.

Lonnie’s Story Is Deeply Rooted in Scripture
In the beginning of the book Lonnie’s story reads like a movie or a history book of the hippie movement mixed with simple Christian language. However, as you continue to read further, you encounter the depth of this man’s journey here on earth. Your heart goes out to Lonnie, not as a wounded boy but as a mighty young man who loved Jesus with his entire being—walking in the first commandment—and was way ahead of his time. No matter how much the big-name ministries want to disassociate from and not recognize him, Lonnie had a huge impact in their lives. This book is very enlightening to old and young alike. These times we are living in are not that different from back then. Maybe God will raise 1,000 Lonnies who will bring Jesus and His true message to many all over the world, who will be the new witnesses to His love and power.

Must Read all 3 book to understand the truth!
Highly recommend all 3 books of Lonnie’s life to know more of hidden history of Jesus People Movement and Vineyard Movement and how he was used by God to be a conduit for both! Blow-minding!

Heavenly revival in relatable down to earth stories
I love Lonnie’s style, sincerity and obedience to the Holy Spirit. I know Lonnie had his share of personal problems, but he doesn’t gloss over them or try to seem more than what he was. I love that Roger Sachs so perfectly transcribes the interviews with Lonnie and makes them very clear and engaging. This journey of faith is so inspiring and I’m really glad to have read it.

    amazing autobiography, poorly written
this book is a must read for people interested in the Jesus revolution, and the mover of that time, Lonnie Frisbee. tthe book is very honest and straight forward about his very powerful but mixed up life. God used him mightily, in spite of his many sins and faults. I’m an old christian and I look for those who tell the truth, vs what I now call “christian-speak”, where the truth is not spoken clearly. The book is poorly written, and that is my only criticism. I am now reading the second book

Reading up after seeing The Jesus Revolution
When I saw the movie and then heard that some things have been smooth over to make it more accessible for audiences. I became very interested in learning more about Lonnie frisbee. I really hadn’t heard anything about him before that movie. After digging around a little I found these three books And decided to get them and hear from himself how he saw himself. It has been an interesting read so far.

    The Spirit has no Bouunders
Reading the life of Lonnie Frisbee was an encounter with the Living God who chooses to manifest himself wherever and however he chooses. Although His Presence is real in traditional church communities, ancient and apostolic or more recently arrived, Jesus and the gift of His Holy Spirit is not locked inside their walls Like Francis of Assisi in the 13th century, Lonnie yielded in obedience to Jesus and so manifested the Spirit’s presence in his broken human lifestyle. This is what true holiness of life is about. …our humble existence transformed by the Power of God’s presence in our life. Lonnie’s autobiography reveals the reality of how God through the person of Jesus attracts a real human person to Himself and, then, sends him out in the Power of His Spirit to draw others into the circle of his loving friendship.

I found this book engrossing, moving and inspiring. Yet, I feel deeply saddened and appalled that even though I have been a Christian for over forty years, and involved in the charismatic movement, I only heard about Lonnie Frisbee a year ago. He appears to have been whitewashed out of the history of those early years of the Jesus movement in the U.S.A. in the 1960s and largely forgotten and side-lined. All this despite his immense contribution. The reason is not hard to find; Lonnie died of AIDS in 1993, and before then had been rejected by those he had loved and served under, such as Pastor Chuck Smith and John Wimber for apparent homosexual involvement.Lonnie accepted that such behaviour was not Biblical, but was not given the support and help he obviously needed. His background was one of extreme parental abuse, including sexual abuse from a babysitter. Yet, despite his brokenness, God used him in an incredibly powerful way to bring hundreds of lost, young hippies to Jesus.I was deeply inspired by Lonnie’s love for Jesus, his utter commitment and faith. He was honest about his weaknesses and failures, including the break up of his marriage and obviously extremely hurt about the way he had been treated by those pastors he had looked up to as fathers.Information about Lonnie on the internet seems to be divided between those few who remembered his powerful ministry and give thanks for it, and those who denigrate his ministry largely because he was tempted by homosexuality and fell. Others jump on the band wagon and tout him as a gay preacher, who lived a largely gay lifestyle. Neither of these appear to be true; Lonnie was a broken and damaged man who loved Jesus passionately and should be remembered for his contribution. As for his sin, which he did not deny; who among us has not looked lustfully at a man or woman?I greatly enjoyed the book, and have ordered the next two.

Powerful. Inspiring. To see and understand Lonnie’s role on this revival leads to believe that God is willing and will use anyone for the advancement of His Kingdom of Love.
