I know some of you may be considering the downloaded version but I highly recommend just picking up the physical shipment
To everyone who is considering purchasing Dragon NaturallySpeaking Premium 13.0, I say you should pick it up. Now, this is not coming from somebody who is an expert at the product, as I’ve only been using it for a couple of hours now. Nevertheless, this is more or less the same experience you may have showed you pick up a copy for yourself. The version that I picked up is the physical shipment. For a total shipping cost of $10, I received my package in two days. I ordered on a Friday night and received it just after 12 PM on Sunday. THAT’S RIDICULOUS!!! I know some of you may be considering the downloaded version but I highly recommend just picking up the physical shipment. It will also come with a headset which you may find useful. The software installed smoothly and works exactly as advertised. My particular system is a Windows 10 64-bit system. I also have 16 Gigs of RAM. The software has a reputation for consuming a lot of resources and I’ve generally confirm this. However, my laptop which was built in 2013 is more than enough to handle the software. If you’re using a system it’s only a couple of years old, you probably won’t have any trouble running the software either. I am also using a MikTek Pro Cast SST microphone for Dragon to pick up. (I couldn’t get the included headset to work with my particular computer however I believe this is something that is isolated to my computer and may not be an issue for you.)There is a tutorial that will help you understand how to use the software once you install it and started. It’s a fairly good tutorial, nevertheless I do recommend following some YouTube videos if you need additional information. I’m just learning to use the system myself but overall I find that it’s fairly intuitive. It does get a bit annoying to have to verbalize your punctuation such as the word “Period”. This is something that I’ll have to get used to, which is a matter of time. I also find that it is very tempting to have Dragon NaturallySpeaking do all of the work for you. I find that I tried to utilize Dragon to do all of the editing and to change all of the words. Knowing when I should do the editing and when I should tell Dragon to edit is something that you will have to figure out on your own. I knew this going into the product and I had decided that the best course of action was to be cooperative with the product and take an interactive approach. So far this does seem to be the best approach.I certainly hope that this review makes sense to you. It was entirely conducted with Dragon naturally speaking, except were a couple of corrections were necessary and I found that it was easiest to make them manually. Overall I’m very pleased with the accuracy – – I happen to have a Midwestern accent which is a little bit drier and may be more accurate for the software itself.I highly recommend Dragon NaturallySpeaking 13.0 Premium. I’m looking forward to using this for all of my blogging and product creation needs. I think you’ll find that it’s an incredible product as well.Thank you for your time.

I feel towards Nuance probably the same way that Ted Cruz’s old roommate feels about Ted Cruz.
UPDATE: Why oh why does this program not die? It does not turn off when you ask it to. It waits, it thinks, it saves, it has a nice lunch, and then it considers your request. Finally, after great thought, it bids you adieu. Well, sort of. There’s still two out of the SEVEN Dragon processes running in the background. What is the benefit of this to me, the user? Will restarting Dragon be snappier the second time around? NO! NO IT WILL NOT!!! It takes just as long, but my God, my dear God, it feels like so much longer. And what does the “Close The DragonBar” menu option actually do? I press it, the DragonBar disappears for about 30 seconds leaving me an hourglass in its place, and then poof, it pops right back up again. I don’t get it. Is Dragon modeled after an ancient Amazonian super-virus? It just doesn’t want to die. I want it to go away when I want it to go away. BUT IT JUST WONT DIE. Why? Why is that??Btw, is it really necessary to have SEVEN processes running in the background? Why not two, or three? Why does Dragon take all that time to load in the first place? … when I am just going to have to wait all over again when I select my profile? I assume I’m missing something here…——————————————————Dear Nuance, I give you 1 star for finally delivering on your promise of a seamless and productivity-boosting voice dictation experience. It only took you 13 tries to get there, but you finally did it. Hallelujah. Now let’s get down to business. I take away one star for your attitude. Yes, your attitude. I won’t explain what I mean by that because I don’t have to. Anybody who has bought your products in the past will know what I’m talking about. And readers of this review will likely be former customers wondering if the rumors are true. They’ve already spent oodles of dollars for something that didn’t work in the past, what’s another hundo for the genuine article?I’m taking another star for telemarketing. I mean seriously, how many times can you try to sell the same person the same software in a year??? Software that they have already purchased no less? Oh I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening. Did you say there’s an amazing new headset I have to buy? Mmmm, mmm, rated five Dragons you say. Well let me just stop working in the middle of the day and pull out my checkbook. Then there’s the user interface. Another star. Somehow it seems that the longer I look at it, and the more I work with it, the harder it gets to actually find anything I’m looking for. I imagine the next Ted Kazinsky is already in the making, just one little innocent dragon bar away…just an itty bitty, clinging, pulsating, pop-up vomiting dragon bar away from a complete break with reality and full embrace of homicidal technology rage.Instructions and customer support? Yet another star. The only software company I can think of that is worse at teaching it’s customers how to use their own product is Microsoft, and they had the sense to get other people to do their job for them by promoting help forums Did you ever think that maybe it might be helpful to keep all that documentation in one place on your website, and maybe present it all in the same format instead of mixing and matching fonts, different styles of presenting information, and different file formats. How about making the latest instructions the easiest to find, say by keeping instructions for older versions together under the appropriate heading of “archive”? Then again, maybe you already do some of this stuff and I just missed it over and over again.Let’s see, I think I only have one star left to take away…what should it be for…oh yeah. Pricing. Your product now is worth what your charged for it 8 years ago. Your product 8 years ago is not worth what you charge for it now. So naturally I get irritated having to shell out over and over again for something that never quite works well enough for me to use for longer than a week…

Love this, very easy to use and the install went better than I thought it would. After reading the reviews I was very worried that it wouldn’t work, but I didn’t have any previous programs, if you do you might want to lookup clean uninstall for dragon. It took me a bit to configure the microphone, but that was me. I tried the windows speech option and had no success, I was yelling into the microphone and just getting frustrated, with the new dragon it adapted to me and we work well together. Very happy with my purchase.

This software works fine–only if you get your pronunciation really accurate. Otherwise, it will be creating random sentences of its own. And then you will end up editing and editing it. Let’s face it, machines cannot replace humans. Sometimes the amount of time it takes to process your dictation will make you think, perhaps typing it by your own fingers would have been much faster. This software is good but not that perfect enough to make the stenographer jobless. Background noises kills its performance. And it cannot understand you should you pronounce differently. But humans will understand you in any kind of situation, not computers. They don’t have intelligence. So, three stars from me.

Good product. Easy to use. Much better than the version that I used many years ago. The box comes with a headphone set. Not blue tooth capable though.Easy to install. No one knows how it will work with Windows 10 !! I guess even Nuance folks don’t know that!!They should have a lot more video clips on their web site as tutorials. Or at least on the You tube. To learn some tips from others is painfully boring and time consuming. For example, they could have 10 common tips….or 10 common errors….10 tips for increased productivity….I don’t expect Nuance folks to read this review but here it is anyway!

I have two BIG problems with this purchase.First, this is 13 Edition. The most current one is 15.3!!! What the hell? I am a Mac User who was forced to buy a new computer and this piece of software because these folks stopped supporting the Mac version. I had heard that the PC version was way more accurate than the Mac version, so that softened the blow. So far, I have not found this to be the case. Then shortly after I installed this on my new PC, I was informed by Nuance that I could get the newest version by paying an EXTRA $150!!! I was assured that version 15 was 25% more accurate than the one I had only just purchased — it is not!Secondly, having bought the newest version, I am constantly (and I mean at least weekly) told that there is an update for it. In my business if I screw up or give an incomplete version of what I was paid to do, I can’t go back to my customer and say, ‘Sorry, I did only half the job, now here’s another 10% of it.’ Why can’t Nuance get it right the first time? On top of that it is a pain in the neck to start work only to find that you have to wait for an update to install.I have used this software in one form or another for over 10 years and IT HAS NEVER LIVED UP TO ITS PROMISE. The only reason that I continue to use it is that there are no other viable options. If Apple ever gets their voice-to-text tech working, I will happily get out of the money pit that Nuance has become. This software is sub-par by every measure.
