Reality is slipping away…
Coherence is the second novel in the REPLIKA trilogy and picks up from where Sky’s Mission ended.
Discovering the secrets of his mother’s research, Morgan sets out to defeat Henry and rescue Aviva from the Red Masks.
When Aviva suspects the Red Masks are not the only ones trying to control the Virt, she must make a tough decision that may spark a deadly conflict in the city streets.
Hugo Bernard crafts another page-turning technothriller while offering an original outlook on how simulated realities can redefine our existence.

Virtue in Virtual Reality
Possible Spoilers ahead!Replika: Coherence is a great sequel to Replika: Skyâs Mission; whereas Skyâs Mission divided the narrative between Sky and Morgan/Hugo, Coherence focuses on the latter, exploring his powers and his significance in the world of VR, and it sets up really well for Terra Firma.I like how Bernard took the idea of the all-powerful Neo from the Matrix in very different directions from that franchise; I especially liked the limits placed on Morgan, which set up for the conflict of the final book while leaving things unsure of how Morgan will be able to beat the trilogyâs nemesisâa second modified child. As with the previous installment, Bernard takes worlds in original, even self-aware directions (appropriate for the topic of worlds within worlds), exploring the interplay between VR worlds and human psychology, both in mutual causes and effects. I really appreciate how he takes different tropes (for example, a Star-Trek style utopian future, even a simulated one) and rethinks them and their desirability. I am very much looking forward to seeing how he resolves the threads he lays out in this book.

Jumps right into the action where the first one finished and leaves you wanting to see how it all comes together.Highly recommended.

Replika: Coherence picks up right where Skyâs Mission ends and throws us straight into the action. Where the first book in this series is a slow-burn, following multiple characters and setting up a fascinating world, the second book launches into high-stakes drama and intrigue. I love having multiple interesting POVs to follow and finding how each of these characters relates to the others. I cannot wait to read the final instalment and find out what happens on Terra Firma! The detailed world building Hugo Bernard has accomplished sets this series apart from most indie sci-fi, rewarding readers who enjoy thematic depth and thoughtful storytelling. Five stars!

I enjoyed the first book very much, but I just loved this one. As we get deeper in Bernardâs dystopian world of Matryoshka dolls virtual realities, questions of control, welfare and economics are raised. This is another page turner with Morganâs quest to find Aviva revealing a rich Replika background. This book was for me a great escape from our sometimes-depressing reality. It made me pause and reflect on individualism, current information parallel realities and the development of AI and virtual worlds. Looking forward to read the final book of this trilogy.
