From the Publisher
What’s new in this second edition?
This second edition introduces new concepts around robotic process automation and using artificial intelligence in flows, as well as connecting to Azure AD with the HTTP connector. It’s updated to reflect changes in terminology and user interface.
What are your favorite topics in this book?
I think my favorite topic in this edition is the introduction of AI models. Working with customers and datasets at scale, AI modeling can allow organizations to use Power Automate to exponentially expand their impact on their own business processes.
One of my other favorite topics was exploring a more complex integration between Forms, Power Automate, and SQL database—showcasing how you can use the tools in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem to act as the glue between multiple applications.
Who is this book for?
This book is for people who want to expand their impact with automation and get more done. Since the book is progressive in complexity, it will help readers at all levels to become proficient in automating their workloads—even if they’re not programmers by trade.
This book makes use of a lot of screenshots and examples, enabling visual learners to see where something is and how it fits into the puzzle, helping the lightbulb switch on. I also think that repetition of going back to familiar flows and modifying them is key to improving the muscle memory of working with actions and conditions.
What areas of Power Automate are you interested to see develop in the future?
AI models are really exciting from the perspective of helping organizations respond to their customers and business requirements at scale. I’m excited to see how new developments in modeling will help further augment human intelligence and capability and help focus on driving the best outcomes.

From Beginner to Advanced a Great Read for Low Code Development
This has been a fantastic read so far. Well put together and as a guide for someone who is stepping foot into the Power Platform and getting into Power Automate this is a great first step. For citizen developers that are building their first automates withing their enterprises this gives them some of the basics to be successful, and as someone who teaches users how to build, this is something that is critical. This is one of those books that you can look to without having to âGoogleâ to try and find some answers as it very plain how to get from start to finish with some basic automate tasks.A majority of users when developing automates are really doing what Aaron is writing about in this book, email, copying files, approvals, and notifications. That covers so many thing our citizen developers are trying to do out of the gate when using the Power Platform. The introduction of some of the more advanced features later in the book such as the Process Automation and AI Models does give a more advanced users something more to chew on outside of the more basics introduced earlier in the book. The only thing that I thought was a bit light was Monitoring and Troubleshooting as I get probably the most question asked in my day-to-day work about whatâs going on in my developed automates. But that can be one of those give it a search first because they can be very diverse.Overall, very good and I really hope that it gets wide acceptance as it is such a good initial book to get users on board with the platform and has an ease of use to get them there.

What to read when you want to expand you view of Power Automate
I have been using Power Automate extensively since it was called Flow nearly 6 years ago however, I have been a fairly “narrow” user using it only within the context of extending Power Apps Canvas Apps. I have used it for database connectivity as well as email and SMS Text notifications as well as building PDFs from Dataverse data. I have seen it used for years in other non-Power Apps contexts but never done it myself. This book is a very good roadmap to understanding the broader context of Power Automate and how it can be used in many, many non-PowerApps contexts. It covers that basics with respect to using it as a stand-alone tool as well as integrating it to a wide variety of tools and use cases such as Email and File processing, Notifications and Approvals. It addresses its use in working with various databases (my primary use case over the years) and gives a nice introduction to using it to automate Azure AD processes. It is here that it starts to address some of the real underlying power of the tool with HTTP and JSON processing. It introduces the user to Robotic Process Automation which for some users and organization is the key to rescuing old Windows and Web applications from the scrap heap. There is an interesting chapter on its use on AI models which I intend to try as well as the general process of managing all of the Flows that you will build which can become onerous. My only complaint is that while the functions that are used to build an “expression”, I did not find any kind of exhaustive review of the expression building language and syntax which is missing not just from here but just about everywhere else. It is something I have learned on my own through trial and error (and lots of web searches) but is still not well documented anywhere that I have found

Concise, Complete, Useful
This book on using MS Power Automate for workflow automation is an excellent guide for beginner and advanced automation engineers or anyone who wants to use the technology. It starts off with the very basics: terminology. This is a route that more books should follow but few do.After the introduction, this book walks you through everything this system can do. Each chapter teaches you something new and useful while building on what you’ve already learned. The text is clear and easy to read.I highly recommend this book for anything who wants to learn Power Automate and take their automation skills to a new level.

Great Resource for New to Intermediate Power Automate Users
Hello! My name is Nick Miller and I am a Cloud Solution Architect specializing in the Power Platform at Microsoft. One of the things I like best about this book is that the chapters are laid out on how to use Power Automate throughout various areas of the Microsoft 365 Cloud starting with an Introduction to Power Automate through Advanced Topics. A few of the Chapters are “Posting Approvals to Teams”, “Using a Database”, “Working with Microsoft Forms”, “Automating Azure AD” (introduces connectors for working with the Microsoft Graph), “Introduction to Robotic Process Automation (RPA)”, and “AI Models introducing Sentiment Analysis AI Model”. To wrap up the chapters, the last chapter is focused on Monitoring and Troubleshooting Flows, loaded with tips and tricks to help you succeed. At Microsoft, our goal is the success of all customers and to empower all users everywhere to achieve more. In the preface, Aaron Guilmette (Author) tells us how to get the most out of his book, and which chapters “get you started” and dive into some advanced use-cases. There are also links to resources in GitHub with great examples, along with covering general terminology in Chapter 1.In summary, do not let the large number of pages deter you from this book. There are lots of helpful screenshots, which show you what and where to type, and walks through each step. A picture is worth a thousand words, and every screenshot is worth it! This is a terrific book and recommended for new and intermediate Power Automate users.Nick MillerCloud Solution Architect | Power PlatformMicrosoft
