The Perfect Lock
I finally found the perfect lock. I never leave reviews but I was so frustrated in my search for the perfect lock and so happy with what I found, I thought I would recount my saga to help anyone in my same position. I am an iPhone/iPad guy that likes to use Google Home wherever possible. It is a little tough to manage integration with Siri and Google Assistant but I mostly have it licked – except for the lock which had been the bane of my existence. I started with the Yale Nest lock. Should work great with google, right? It does, except google can only lock the door, not unlock it. I understand why for security purposes, but it defeated the purpose I was looking for – not having to use a key OR the keypad when my hands were full. I wanted quick and easy entry. I was going to set up a simple Siri shortcut so I could tell my Apple Watch to unlock the door, and it would tell Google. No dice. Strike one.I next tried the Sledge Sense. It says it works with Google Assistant and Siri. I knew going in that Google would not unlock this door either, but I read that Siri would. I figured I could make this work. Iâll leave all my google routines for inside the home (lock doors before bed, lock doors for when I am about to leave, etc.) and then just use a Siri routine for returning home (unlock door and disarm security system). Strike 2. First, the Sense does work with Google and HomeKit, but not at the same time. You have to choose one or the other. So no double routines. Still figured I could just cut the locking out of my Google routines by making it auto lock and then run it just on HomeKit to unlock with Siri. This kind of worked, but your iPhone has to be unlocked in order for Siri to unlock the door. This means that you cannot use Siri to unlock the door with your Apple Watch while the phone is in your pocket. So still not accomplishing the easy entry I was looking for.I was tired of spending money on locks that didnât do what I wanted and about to give up when I decided I would give this one a try. And I struck gold. First of all, it works with Siri and Google, though I didnât even bother to set it up with Siri because of the geofencing discussed below. Second, Google actually CAN lock AND unlock this one, unlike the other 2. You do have to speak your code Google to unlock which still makes quick entry awkward, but at least you can use google to unlock the door for a visitor if you are in another room of the house. But the best part is you donât need to rely on Google OR Siri to unlock the door for yourself when coming home. Just set up geofencing with the Bluetooth on your iPhone, and it will unlock automatically when you get close.This has everything I was looking for in a lock. It seems to be well built and was easy to set up and get running. It still has a few little quirks that are annoying but not fatal. My only real complaint is how you wake up the keypad if you want to do a manual code entry. You would think you would press the home icon on the top but you would be wrong. You might also hope that you could touch anywhere on the screen to wake it up, but thatâs not it either. Instead, you have to press on the bottom left hand side of the screen where the check mark would be (except you canât see the check mark at that point because the screen is asleep). This is not a big deal at all once you get used to it, but I could see this being very confusing if I have a guest coming to my house and I just give them the code to punch in for the door. Iâm sure I will be getting a few calls that the keypad âdoesnât work.” I wish they would fix this. Also, I donât think you can manage pin codes from the app. It appears you have to do this from the keypad. I might be wrong as I havenât looked into this very much yet, but if you are someone who manages a lot of key codes (Airbnb), you need to look into this and this may not be the lock for you.Otherwise, I am so very thankful that I took a chance on this lock. It is everything I was looking for and more. I am buying 2 more for my other doors!

Works great, takes a bit of time to install
This is a great lock system. I purchased this for my investment property because it seemlessly integrates with the airbnb app. It automatically creates a code as soon as someone books which takes the hastle of keeping up and creating a new one for each guest. It took a little time to install (about an hour) and connect to the wifi but there are detailed directions so it’s easy to follow along. This is actually the second one I purchased because a guest broke the last one but highly recommend this especially if you have short term rental investments!

Bought and installed for a customer. Had everything working great. Then she called Spectrum and they installed a different cable modem and router. Now nothing works. The customer figured out how to manually program it. It was not any failure of the lock. Spectrum just doesn’t do site surveys. They modified everything to accomodate 4 TV’s. Streaming TV works, Yale Lock and Ring Cameras don’t.

disappointed… the technology is still not mature after so many years
I went through several main stream journal reviews before I decided to purchase this product. The August Lock is the top selection or is recommended in most reviews, but I need the key pad function, so I purchased this Yale lock with the August solution for Smart Home Controls. However its Smart Home Controls function is what disappointing me.* I cannot use the DoorSense function since the calibration can never succeed. I ran the calibration for more than 10 times, even every step was completed without a problem, the process ended with an error and it gave no clues.* The integration with Alexa and Google sucks. It happened many times that the lock showed offline from the Alexa app and Google Home app, but it’s steady online on the Yale app (it’s truely online though for the Yale app). Locking and unlocking from the Alexa app or Google Home app took about 6 seconds or more, then the app complained an error (indicating it’s offline, looks it’s because of communication timeout), and the lock did get locked or unlocked after another 1 to 2 seconds. I tried both apps for a few times and all got the same failure.* There is no way you can setup a rule that turns on a light when the door is unlocked. It is very disappointing on the Smart Home technology and the industry, after so many years selling so many smart home products, such a common and basic function is still unavailable, shame on the industry.I tried both Alexa and Google Home, none worked. Actually I want a light to be turned on when it’s night time (e.g. after 6pm) and when the lock is being unlocked. Neither Alexa or Goolge Home gives such a function, Alexa only allows one condition to trigger multiple actions, not multiple conditions to trigger some actions and looks Alexas doesn’t have a condition for a time period. Google is even worse, they only give you pre-defined routines and none can use a smart lock.Even I lowered down my expectation and just asked for the light to be turned on when the lock becomes unlocked (forget about multiple condtions thing which could be too difficult for the smart home technology, sigh…), the routine on Alexa still doesn’t work. I found a person complained the same issue on the Alexas forum. He used a Schlage smart lock and he thought the lock didn’t send the Unlocked event to Alexa. I felt this Yale/August smart lock has the same issue. Looks the cloud side integraton really sucks.* The installation was surprisingly not difficult. To replace my original deadbolt with this smart lock is easier than I expected. Yale also provides installation instructions through the BILT app, which is nice. But there are quite many QR codes, one for the app download, one for Yale Access (i.e. August integration), one for the WiFi bridge, one for Apple Home ID, and there are some duplicates… I wonder if people really know which one is used for which purpose.* The one-touch lock function sometimes seemed not to work. I like this function and I’ll try it few more times. Besides it happened once that the lock automatically locked when I had just opened the door (less than the 2 minutes window for the auto-lock function).* The auto-unlock function does not work well. Initially it worked well on my phone, after a couple of weeks, sometimes the unlock did not happen until more than 5 seconds after I stood in front of the door.Auto-unlock worked for a few days on my wife’s phone, then it never worked…

Te recomiendo ver un tutorial de instalación, para que verifiques que tu puerta cumple con las caracterÃsticas necesarias, y si es asà te la recomiendo al 100%.
