The Resistance is fractured. The remaining survivors are buckling under the might of the malicious Tyrant King. Enter Roark von Graf, hedge mage, lesser noble of Traisbin, and one of the last freedom fighters. Desperate and unhinged, Roark crafts one final attempt to overthrow the king. The plan goes awry, and Roark finds himself tumbling headfirst into an interdimensional portal. On the other side, he finds himself stranded in an unexpected place – an ultra-immersive fantasy video game called Hearthworld. Worse yet, he’s taken the form of a low-level troll. Luckily, Roark managed to grab a powerful magic artifact that could defeat the king. It might not be game over after all.
Dungeon Masters James Hunter and eden Hudson form an alliance with Audie award winner Nick Podehl and invite you to gear up with this new series. Get ready to level up, because this time the game is real.

Quick fun read
Enjoyed this book written from the perspective of the monsters in a game. Good LitRPG with an interesting and novel tale on the genre.

Great litRGP!
Rogue Dungeon takes a different approach to the usual litRPG literature. The main characters are very interesting, well-developed and engaging. I enjoyed it very much and am looking forward to reading book 2 of the series.Kindle Unlimited

Rogue Dungeon
Rogue Dungeon might be my first LitRPG book. Itâs certainly the first one Iâll remember reading. It takes a protagonist who lives in a world with specific magical rules for invocation – writing – and thrusts him into the role of a rebel against an oppressor with a world-breaking magic item – literally. RPG players will know the type: itâs as if at second level you got an artifact from a temple that allowed you to carve through dungeons like a hot knife through warm butter. Then he steals the item and … ends up in a game. A literal RPG, an MMORPG. He has to work out the mechanics of the RPG as an NPC with player capabilities, thanks to the world-breaking artifact, and has to figure out what his abilities and goals are and should be within and without the game mechanics.Along the way, heâs interacting with not only the game itself, but the people who play the game, with the overarching goal being the defeat of the oppressor of his own city.Itâs an interesting mechanic. Itâs not heavy fare, partly due to genre, but itâs certainly entertaining reading. The protagonist is monomaniacal, but that fits in context with his background. There are a few cliches in play, to be sure, but there are entertaining and unexpected developments that defy the standard tropes while still paying homage to the MMORPG standards themselves. It also raises an interesting question: what, exactly, is the title referring to? Is it the set of rogues that inhabit the worlds being portrayed, or is it the development of circumstances outside of the MMORPGâs design itself? Itâs this kind of touch that makes the series worthwhile.Itâs well-written and enjoyable, especially for the genre, which can be repetitive and exploitative. Recommended.

Fun!
Iâve never read a litRPG novel before, in fact I didnât even know what litRPG meant, so I had to look it up to see what I was getting myself into. I have to admit, for someone whose only experience with gaming is Pokemon & Candy Crush (I know, I know, donât laugh!) it took several chapters for me to get into but once I caught on I felt rather proud of myself for âgetting itâ. Since I donât play video games (well except for what I mentioned earlier…shhhh) all this was new and fascinating to me.Roark is our smart mouth braggadocio hero who escapes through a portal as heâs being pursued by the evil murderous Tyrant King. As he travels through the portal into another dimension heâs transformed into a blue skin pot-bellied Changeling and lands in a video game called Hearthworld. There he meets Kaz, another Changeling who becomes not just an ally in this new world but a wealth of knowledge in how this game world operates. Along with Changelings, there are all sorts of characters in this world such as elves, shambling revenants(kinda zombie like), reaver bats, stone salamanders etc.Itâs seems the main purpose of Changelings and other low-level characters in this game is to die at the hands of âheroesâ and then come back to life just to die again so the âheroesâ or the people who play the games can advance to higher levels and eventually evolve and perhaps win the ultimate level, BIG honcho of the dungeon. But Roark isnât going to just roll over and die without a fight. In order to return to his world and take on the Tyrant King, remaining a low-level isnât part of his game. Roark gathers together his merry band of low-level misfits including fellow Changeling Kaz, a Salamander named Macaroni (yeah!) and others. Youâll have to read in order to find out whoâs who in the zoo.Bottom line is I had so much fun reading this. One thing I really appreciated was the charts showing the stats when a lower level character moved up from one level to the next and also when they leveled up or acquired a new skill the change was written in italics. Like I said, I know almost nothing (ummm except for what I mentioned earlier, shhh!) and all these nuggets helped a newbie like me immensely. By the end of this book I was in my groove and felt like a real player. I feel like Iâve acquired some skills albeit low level and am so ready for the next game to start. Roark here I come, I have your back! Bring.It.On.

This is a great story. I highly recommend it. It’s a mixer of evolution, revenge arc, dungeon master, and monster litrpg. I really like the MC and his friends. They’re great character. Most of all, the worldbuliding and the unique concept is great. I can’t wait for what comes next.
